Architecture + Planning School Holiday Program (Wednesday)
Through interactive workshops students will discover how architects, designers and planners shape our future cities and living spaces to create vibrant communities.
At the end of the day you'll put all you have learnt into practice, solving problems that challenge conventional thinking and bring a different mindset to design for a better, more sustainable world.

| 9:00am - 10am | Drawing/sketching masterclass | Learn to sketch like an Architect. Students will learn not only the sketching technique, but also about the thinking behind the process - e.g. why and how to integrate people and landscape, and how to create a sense of depth in an image, and much more. |

| 10:30am - 12:00pm | Model building – build the room from the previous session | Building on your design from the sketching masterclass, you will get hands-on and creative and build your design! |

| 1:00pm - 2:00pm | Neighbourhood Challenge | Students will test their planning skills and design a neighbourhood or a place that meets the needs of the 21st Century. Students will explore concepts of sustainability, liveability and people-centred design. |
| 2:00pm - 3:00pm | Gummy Bear Challenge | Using only gummy bears and skewers, you will work together to design and build the tallest and most structurally sound gummy bear tower. |

About Engineering, Design and Computing School Holiday Program
Designed for Year 9 and 10 students, the 4-day program follows our study areas of Engineering, Design and Computing. You will learn to think like engineers, architects, designers and planners, and computing professionals through hands-on and interactive workshops and presentations, facilitated by lecturers and our wonderful Student Ambassador team. You’ll also have the chance to explore UQ’s engineering, design and computing precinct including the state-of-the-art makerspace facility, UQ Innovate and the Andrew N. Liveris Building.
You can enrol in one, two, three or four days.
- Tuesday 25 June - Engineering School Holiday Program Day 1
- Wednesday 26 June - Architecture + Planning School Holiday Program
- Thursday 27 June - Design + Technology School Holiday Program
- Friday 28 June - Engineering School Holiday Program Day 2
Cost: $35 (+GST) per day.
Registration
Important information
- Please note each workshop has a max capacity, and registrations will close once this number is reached.
- Students do not need to prepare anything before attending our workshops.
- Students can bring their own lunch or buy lunch from one of the food outlets on campus.
- Attendees are expected to stay with the group for the entire day.
- Registration closes 23 June 2024 (or unless sold our prior). Please register before the closing date.
- Images and videos may be taken for the use of marketing purposes, please advise event staff via email should you not want your or your childs photo taken.
