Women in action seize global opportunities

16 Oct 2018

Six female engineering, design and information technology students have received a welcome funding boost to seize global opportunities, thanks to Ergon Energy & Energex.

Each student received a bursary of $1000 as part of the Women in Action Fund to engage in community and industry based experiences through study tours, student exchange and professional and personal development experiences.

Mechanical engineering student and Women in Engineering Student Leader Isabelle Fleming is using her bursary to travel to The Delft University of Technology where she will represent UQ Space at the International Aerospace Community Conference.

“I want to build a network of young engineering professionals and further the education and opportunity for myself, my team and the next generation of aspiring engineers,” she said.

Supported by the School’s alumni, friends and industry partners, the Women in Action Fund distributes up to five small grants of $1,000 each, twice per calendar year to support aspiring female students wanting to make a global impact.

Recipient Kali Marnane received her bursary in semester one and used her funds to travel to New York to pursue a UQ Graduate School placement.

“Professionally I have expanded my global network, made contacts within and in adjacent disciplines and connected me to possible future collaborators and employers,” she said.

Ergon Energy & Energex are also proud partners of the Women in Engineering Program.

Contributions to this fund can be made at UQ’s Giving website.
