Easy employability boosters to kickstart your year
Is employability at the bottom of your to-do list right now? These quick ideas can be worked into your back-to-school routine and will help you to bulk up your employability.
1. Become a member of an EAIT Student Society
EAIT has a range of student societies to suit the broad spectrum of disciplines that our students might be interested in. Student societies are a great way to meet like-minded peers, network at industry events, or just have fun.
You can find the full list online here.
2. Join a sports club or special interest group
Looking for something more active or wanting to connect over culture?
UQ proudly boasts over 200 clubs and societies to select from.
From chess to baking, to comedy and football, joining a group will give employers an understanding of your personality and diversity. Uni sports teams can showcase your team skills, and hobby or culture groups display an interest in networking and skill development.
Explore UQ clubs and societies here, or join a sports club here.
3. Check out EAIT social and networking events
If the idea of formal networking stresses you out, then try signing up for an event instead.
There are so many free and fun student-focussed UQ events throughout the year. Attending and talking to just one new person at an event can help you tick that networking box in an easy and relaxed format. You never know - that person might just be the future contact you need for your dream job.
Events range from panels to concerts, workshops and information sessions.
New events are regularly updated, so keep an eye out on the webpage.
4. Sign up for some extracurricular programs and training opportunities
Don’t waste your free time scrolling on your phone, sign up for one or two extracurricular activities instead.
There are so many options to pick from including in-person and online, so you can find something that suits your needs and time. These programs will offer you chances to learn new skills or opportunities to build on your studies.
Employers will be impressed by your initiative and drive to go above and beyond your standard study courses.
