What does the day involve?
Students will participate in a panel session, walking tour and two hands-on workshops while connecting and engaging with our friendly student leader team and faculty staff.

Giving Movement Back | In this workshop, you will assemble and test a 3D-printed prosthetic hand and will learn how engineers help society in many ways, including giving movement back through prosthetic limbs. | Mechanical, Biomedical |
Design Thinking | Unlock your creativity and be introduced to the concepts of Design Thinking. This interactive session will help you turn world changing ideas into impactful, sustainable enterprises. | All |
Waves of Destruction | Explore the importance of coastal protection by using a mobile wave tank to simulate interacting with coral reefs and beaches. Working in groups, you'll discover the damage waves can have on our coastline and work out the best solutions to minimise this impact. | Civil, Environmental |
SunSmart Code | In this workshop, you will become a Biomedical Engineer by developing a UV detection device to alert the user of high exposure to UV. You will learn basic coding to program an Arduino and learn about the electrical components behind the scenes to trigger LED sensors based on UV exposure. | Software, Electrical, Biomedical |
Powering Tomorrow | Brand new workshop in 2024! Decarbonisation is the current buzz word and WE want to teach you all about it. Explore concepts behind batteries and hydrogen and its future possibilities. | Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical |
Important Information:
• It is preferred that teachers sign up their students’ participation for the day as part of a school group. The school representative can register on behalf of all students attending however the WE team will still require individual names of attendees and which workshops they are attending.
• Please note each workshop has a max capacity, and registrations for individual workshops in each session will close once this number is reached.

The UQ Women in Engineering (WE) team are delighted to host our flagship annual event of the year, WE Explore Engineering Day.
WE Explore Engineering Day showcases the diverse engineering opportunities at UQ through hands-on workshops, interactive presentations, and tours of the engineering precinct including the state-of-the-art makerspace facility, UQ Innovate and the new Andrew N. Liveris Building, home of Chemical Engineering.
