The University of Queensland’s School of Architecture, in partnership with the State Library of Queensland (SLQ), is proud to announce the 2019 line-up of UQ International Architecture Lecture Series speakers.
2019 marks the start of a refreshed UQ School of Architecture lecture series program which will now take place seasonally.
The four-part, globally focused series began on Tuesday 26 March with Director of MVRDV Shanghai Marta Pozo, as the closing event of the 2019 Asia Pacific Architecture Forum.

This year’s series will feature three speakers across the coming seasons, with Maggie Ma of DOMAT Hong Kong featuring in Winter, Marijn Schenk of NEXT Architects Amsterdam in Spring and Milinda Pathiraja of Robust Architecture Workshop Sri Lanka in Summer.
The scheduled 2019 speakers join an illustrious line up of past presenters that have participated in the UQ architecture lecture series. View the past UQ Architecture Lecture Series presentations here.
Alongside the seasonal International Architecture Lecture Series, SLQ and UQ have also introduced ‘Here Now’, a series of occasional lunchtime architecture talks that invite visiting architectural practitioners to share their experiences with an audience at SLQ. The most recent ‘Here Now’ talk was delivered by architectAna Luisa Soares of Portugal’s FALA Atelier.

Maggie Ma of DOMAT Hong Kong
Maggie Ma is a Registered Architect graduated from CUHK. After 4 years of commercial work experience, Maggie looked for work with a more humanitarian focus and started working on rural projects in China. Since 2010, Maggie has worked with rural communities, charity groups and local governments designing and constructing architectural projects, and researching the transformation of Chinese villages, towns and cities. With experience in building relationships, diplomacy and realising ideas, Maggie co-founded DOMAT community & architecture with Mark Kingsley in 2013.

Marijn Schenk of NEXT Architects The Netherlands
Marijn Schenk is one of the founders of NEXT architects. He graduated in 1999 from the Technical University of Delft, Faculty of Architecture. Together with Bart Reuser, Marijn received the first prize of the ARCHIPRIX 2000 for the project 'The Layered Land'.
