Why did you choose to study at UQ?
My main motivation to study at UQ came from the fact that I also wanted to study a mathematics degree on top of engineering. I was specifically drawn to UQ because of the wealth of opportunities available to live at a residential college and due to their ongoing partnership with Boeing, which is a company I aspire to work for in the future.
Why did you choose to study your discipline?
Throughout school, I had always been particularly keen on science and mathematics subjects, and I knew that an engineering degree would allow me to apply my learning in these areas on a practical level. As for my decision to study mathematics, I believed this side of my learning would actively help me develop additional skills, such as strong analytical abilities, that are transferable to my engineering degree. Lastly, I realised that the aerospace industry was undergoing significant expansion in Australia at the time of choosing my major, which consequently motivated me to select my specific area of study, as this would provide me with the best opportunities to develop new technologies and introduce innovative engineering solutions.
What advice do you have for prospective students interested in studying engineering, architecture, computer science and/or information technology at UQ?
The main piece of advice I would give future students is to develop as many friendships and contacts within your degree as possible. For engineering in particular, most courses within the degree have group projects and assignments that require collaboration with your peers, and this is much easier if you have already made friends prior to starting these courses.
