Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical and Biomedical) / Bachelor of Science
Who or what made you choose to study this?
Chemical Engineering is an incredibly hands-on degree. I have the opportunity to work in industry,
improve practical skills, contribute to sustainable innovation, and network in a community working to advance technologies for emerging generations. Chemical Engineering is the future of sustainability, it is the backbone to ensure the most efficient and effective system processes. I want to contribute to a brighter future, and it starts with this degree. I am too curious and too excited not to explore a career in design and innovation.
Why did you choose to study at UQ?
UQ was a dream university for me. Coming from a small rural town growing up, I was in awe by the magnificence of the campus, the number of people, and the range of extra-curricular activities that were available at my fingertips. The Great Court captured my eye initially, just seeing the bright green grass, smiling faces, and a whole world of networking and collaboration that I wanted to be a part of. UQ has amazing facilities, including the Andrew N. Liveris Building, which solidified my desire to study in my particular field, and at UQ.
What do you love most about your degree?
Being in a room filled with people who are as passionate as you are about a particular degree and have a similar end goal in mind is so comforting. High school is difficult in the sense that you’re always pushed to do certain subjects or courses you don’t want to, and people rebel against the environment. But at uni, everyone has a common goal and a common purpose. And the collaboration is so exciting.
