Q: Can I start my placement later than the proposed start date?

A: If it is not possible for you to start your placement on time, you will have to discuss alternative start dates with the course coordinator as well as the placement provider. Please note that starting later may mean that you will also have less time to prepare for assignments.

Q: I won’t be able to physically attend the placement information session/pre-placement workshop. Can I join via Zoom?

A.: Unfortunately, there is no live streaming of these sessions, but they are recorded. If you are not able to attend due to other commitments, letthe EAIT Employability team know  and we will make sure to send you the recording after the workshop.

Q: Why am I unable to enrol in Si Net?

A: Access will be granted for you to enrol once your placement has been confirmed via email.  Placement confirmation usually occurs a few weeks prior to your placement commencing.

Q: Can I complete my industry placement part time (BE(Hons/ME)?

A: Your industry placement is a full-time commitment for the duration of the course. Requests to alter this requirement cannot be accommodated.

Q: Can I graduate in the same semester in which I complete my placement (BE(Hons)/ME)?

A: BE(Hons)/ME students cannot graduate in the same semester as their placement as placement dates extend beyond a usual semester and grades will not be finalised in time for graduation deadlines..  In these instances you can seek a completion certificate from EAIT Student Administration (assuming all other graduation requirements are met) while waiting for graduation to occur.

Q: Do I need to pay tuition fees whilst on a placement?

A: Yes, you do need to pay tuition fees as you would for any other courses you are enrolled in at UQ.

Q: Can I claim my industry placement (BE(Hons)/ME)  for Engineering Professional Practice (EPP)?

A: ENGG7291/7292/7293 can be claimed towards your type A hours for EPP. You’ll need to have successfully passed the course and your results be available in Si-Net before these can be approved. Refer to the EPP Activity table on the EAIT Employability webpage for further details on what can be claimed.

Any reflections you may write as part of assessment for ENGG7291/7292/7293 or other courses cannot be resubmitted as your EPP reflections. EPP reflections need to be separate to and different from any other reflections you have submitted for assessment.
