9:00am – 10.30amDesign for a better worldDiscover the importance of designing for the end user. In pairs students will design a product based in each other’s needs and wants.
10.30am - 11:00amMorning tea 
11:00am – 12:00pmBinary codingComputer languages are often referred to as Python, C#, Cobol and more, the computer’s original language is very basic and binary, 1’s and 0’s. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of binary coding and how to create their own code. From there, they will design their own personalised wristband using the code.
12:15pm – 1:10pmLunch  
1:15pm – 2:50pmGeo Location Adventure

In different locations across the University you will be sent on an adventure to different places to explore and find the treasures. Follow the instructions to get to the next location and unlock the set of clues

*Please note, students will require a mobile phone for this workshops. Those students who may not have one can work in groups with others.

About Engineering, Design and Computing School Holiday Program

Designed for Year 9 and 10 students, the 4-day program follows our study areas of Engineering, Design and Computing. You will learn to think like engineers, architects, designers and planners, and computing professionals through hands-on and interactive workshops and presentations, facilitated by lecturers and our wonderful Student Ambassador team. You’ll also have the chance to explore UQ’s engineering, design and computing precinct including the state-of-the-art makerspace facility, UQ Innovate and the Andrew N. Liveris Building.

You can enrol in one, two, three or four days.

Cost: $35 (+GST) per day.

Important information

  • Please note each workshop has a max capacity, and registrations will close once this number is reached.
  • Students do not need to prepare anything before attending our workshops.
  • Students can bring their own lunch or buy lunch from one of the food outlets on campus.
  • Attendees are expected to stay with the group for the entire day.
  • Registration closes 23 June 2024 (or unless sold our prior). Please register before the closing date.
  • Images and videos may be taken for the use of marketing purposes, please advise event staff via email should you not want your or your childs photo taken.
