Outline idea and define the learning goals
Defining the purpose is the most important step in planning a media resource for students. Throughout the development process, we can refer to the purpose when making decisions on the type of media resource to create and what content should be included.
Develop a script
Writing a script is an important step in creating a concise and precise media resource. A script will be required for any project that requires a teleprompter, but it is also useful to use a script to plan off-the-cuff demonstrations. Even if you are familiar with a topic or process, a script will help you to ensure you have a plan for the video and include all the essential information.
Create a storyboard to link the script to visual content
Once you have a script or a detailed outline of your media resource, you will be able to construct a storyboard. A storyboard is a critical document that links the content of your script to the visual elements, such as video of a person or a piece of equipment, screen capture of specific software, or a PowerPoint slide. The storyboard provides the videographer and editor with a clear guide of what content should be included and how it all fits together.
Film or animate
The creation of a media resource may involve filming video, recording audio, or creating an animation. For projects requiring video and audio content, we will arrange an appropriate time to record the content. For animations, we may need to have ongoing discussions to ensure the animations will meet expectations.
Edit
The editing stage brings together all the elements of the media development process to create the final product. This process also involves removing background noise, adjusting lighting, and adding graphic elements such as opening titles.
Review
After the first edit is complete, the media resource is supplied for you to provide feedback and suggest changes. Generally, if the storyboard is comprehensive, only minor changes will be necessary. Once any changes have been implemented you will be supplied with the final media resource.
