WiC Student Leaders
The most important part of the Women in Computing program.
Our Student Leaders are from Computer Science and Information Technology undergraduate and postgraduate programs at UQ with different backgrounds and skills, but one single goal: break barriers towards gender equality in the technology sector.
As volunteers, they represent UQ at high school visits, campus tours, recruitment events and career events such as UQ Open Day and TSXPO. Their role is to share their university experiences and encourage young women to pursue education and careers in technology.
They also are introduced to unique professional development opportunities through networking and mentoring with industry representatives, such as the ACM-W Student Chapter at UQ; or the BoostHer app, an onboarding app designed to empower high school girls interested in studying technology at UQ.

Many women feel there are things they just can't achieve, especially around STEM. I would like to support them in pursuing technology as an area of study and as a career.
Whether it's to pursue a specific academic or career goal, gain a global perspective, or positively impact your community back home, keeping your initial purpose in mind will provide you with the motivation to overcome any hurdles.
I want to nurture a community of women in computing to blossom on their unique path of self-discovery and growth.
By taking the leap into the unknown if gives you the chance to learn and make so many new friends.
When I came across coding in 8th grade, it was addicting.
Finding balance comes with having a proper routine that works for your life.
The best part of my software engineering degree is the way it pushes me to solve tough problems. And when I do solve them, the sense of excitement and accomplishment is such a great feeling. It's what keeps me going, no matter how tough things might seem.
My degree opens up a window for me to view the power of computer science.
I want to use this role to encourage more people to study computer science and to make connections with others in the field. I think it would be a fun and fulfilling experience that would help me grow both personally and professionally.
